Summary: Arthur Prescott is happiest when surrounded by the ancient books and manuscripts of the Barchester Cathedral Library, a refuge from the concrete buildings of the university where he teaches literature. In the library he nurtures his secret fascination with the Holy Grail, but when a young American named Bethany Davis arrives to digitize the cathedral's medieval manuscripts, Arthur's tranquility is broken. Concerned by the threat technology poses to the library he loves, Arthur sets out to thwart Bethany, only to find in her a kindred spirit and fellow grail enthusiast. Together, Arthur and Bethany work to uncover a long-lost secret about the cathedral's past, a search that leads them to discoveries about the Grail, and about themselves, that neither expected.
